Lucilla Bonfanti
Artist:
Lucilla Bonfanti
Introduction:

"The source of my work is a handful of black and white photographs from a family album. My work deals simultaneously with perception of space and time. By revisiting my past I have allowed myself to readdress some unresolved issues that have been burdening me for many years, thus experiencing a healing effect."

Gabriele Craig
Artist:
Gabriele Craig
Introduction:

"What captures my interest is a representation of nature, the feelings our experiences of nature evoke. Using watercolour, mixed media and encaustic, these allow me to explore ways of using layers of colour to convey inner dispositions in an abstract manner, also enabling the viewer to experience his or her unique emotional reaction. The Heather Series represent an undulation, isolation and shifting of perspectives. The images vacillate between abstraction and representation, evoking metaphorical scenic interpretations."

Judith Davidson-Palmer
Artist:
Judith Davidson-Palmer
Introduction:

“I am a painter and photographer who studied at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Ontario College of Art, and with Chinkok Tan, Barry Coombs, and Lila Lewis Irving.  I explore the effects of mixed media, colour, and composition and its perceptual and emotional impacts.  My photography is both colour and monochrome and captures special perspectives.  I alter the common viewpoint and challenge the viewer to see and interpret something unique.”

Katelyn Di Giulio
Artist:
Katelyn Di Giulio
Introduction:

"A mixed-media artist, I completed my BFA Degree at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick and the ISP at Toronto School of Art. My work is inspired by and plays with ‘the feminine’ and craft work, pop culture and film, fabrics and fashion, vintage and kitsch.  My art is highly process-based, and the work is mostly series-oriented. I rely on both happenstance and nostalgia to create playful works, which incorporate collage, photography, fibre and sculptural elements."

Rheta Fines
Artist:
Rheta Fines
Introduction:

"I was born in Northern Ontario and as a child painted in watercolours.  After a career in the corporate world in Toronto I returned to my watercolours. I have attended many watercolour courses at Art Works Art School.  I use mostly transparent watercolours and find that watercolour has many exciting qualities that make it different from other types of painting.  My subjects are varied."

Ann Marie Higgins
Artist:
Ann Marie Higgins
Introduction:

"The multiple layers of paint applied in my landscape abstractions have presented an atmospheric depth that I am drawn to. The presence of many layers allows me to excavate into my works. This visual unearthing of previous tonal and surface applications encourages the complexity that I am striving for. My goal is that the viewer is able to ‘look into’ my painting and is ultimately able to 'find the light'."

Janet Hunter
Artist:
Janet Hunter
Introduction:

"An academic interest in antiquity, myth and archaeology, as well as a life-long habit of figure drawing, inform my sculpture. My interest is the body as subject and reflects such fields of reference as the classical partial figure, Michelangelo's "non-finito" pieces, the "abbatis" of Rodin, the distressed surfaces of Magdalena Abakanowicz. Thematically the works speak to the notion of entropy, the role played by the passage of time and the vulnerability of the archaic object."

Carolyn Jongeward
Artist:
Carolyn Jongeward
Introduction:

"Using acrylics and mixed media techniques, including block printing, I explore the dynamics of vibrant colour and geometric patterning. The visual forms of my work are emergent and intuitive rather than representational. My paintings draw from 25 years as tapestry artist, and they have been exhibited in Toronto since 2000."
